WindClan

WindClan's culture is a familial, welcoming one. Many a cat has wandered into the moors and chosen to remain, appreciative of the Clan's hospitality and willingness to care for strangers as if they were one of their own. Outsiders are an important part of the Clan, for it has been Windclan’s willingness to take in strangers and welcome them into its ways that has kept the Clan so open and determined to do right by one another, no matter the differences between them. The openness of the moor and tightness of the tunnels make the close bonds between Clanmates ever more important—who, if not a Clanmate, will literally dig you out of a problem when one occurs?

WindClan’s territory is spacious and expansive, not only aboveground, but below it. On the surface, the moors are covered in heather, gorse, and more plants than any one cat could ever expect to learn. The sky overhead is wide and, on finer days, makes it feel as if you could run across the territory and never find its end; at night, the stars shine down bright and close enough to brush against your whiskers.

Below ground exists another world, carefully carved out and maintained by the Clan’s tunnelers. These tunnels weave below the surface, opening up into caverns and hideaways and cave systems speckled with the shining light of glowworms.

"For many moons WindClan has remained steady, and such a steady nature has given us the opportunity to grow and find stability in even the darkest hours... But it has also made us complacent. Typhoonstar knows what it costs to stand tall and follow what our predecessors have done, and she knows—as well as I—that to continue upholding our values, we must adapt. I declare on behalf of Typhoonstar and the council that WindClan will no longer limit ourselves based on what our history says; there is honor in tradition, but there is strength in welcoming progress and reformation. May all cats of WindClan—young and old—feel the freedom to pursue a life that fulfills them. May we find peace in our differences, love in times of turmoil, and hope even in the darkest of hours. I swear to you upon my life that WindClan will never again fear change, for the ability to adapt is what makes us who we are and enables us to shine. - Shrimpskip

StarClan & Faith

After Starclan's intervention in the coup at tallrock, Typhoonstar has come to believe her appointment to be the righteous decision of her ancestors. She intends to bring the clan back to its roots, despite growing up in a generation that'd previously scorned Starclan.

Warrior Code

Typhoonstar gave up much to maintain her post as deputy, and holds a scorn and resentment towards cats who aren't willing to make the same sacrifices in the name of loyalty to the clan. Cats who veer from the path of the warrior code and devotion to their home risk earning her ire...

WINDCLAN VALUES

ADAPTABILITY!

Every cat in WindClan knows that their territory can feel—at times—like two entirely different territories stacked atop each other. To navigate the moors above requires a keen memory, quick paws, and a comfort with vast open skies and land alike. There are few places to hide out on the open moors, and even fewer that provide an escape from the elements. Yet, to navigate the tunnel's below one's paws requires heightened awareness, intense usage of more than just one's eyes, and the courage to venture deep within the earth. Unlike the open moors, one is never *not* shielded from the sky and the stars by layers of dirt and stone. It's impossible to overstate that WindClan's territory is comprised of two extremes, yet every cat is expected to know how to traverse both. Even from the tender age of kithood, kits within WindClan are taught to navigate to both the tunnels and the moors through the Kit Tunnels, Camp Tunnels, and the rest of WindClan's camp—really, it's no secret why adaptability is so highly prized within the clan.

tolerance!

WindClan's culture is an open one, and it was built upon moons and moons of interacting with cats who chose to build lives separate from the clans. For most of the seasonal cycle, WindClan's borders are open for any cat not affiliated with a clan to visit, and even the camp is open to any weary traveler who would like to stay for a few moons! Is it so surprising, then, that tolerance is a virtue all cats are expected to have? Kits and apprentices typically grow up alongside other kits of outsiders, warriors are known to trek through the territory shoulder-to-shoulder with a stranger they only met a few days ago, and there have been many a cat who chose to spend part of their life wandering past the borders of the clan to find themselves and learn more of others! To connect with another cat not in spite of, but because of one's differences is simply a part of WindClan's core values.

FAMILIAL!

Wc treasures the bonds of family. Many cats have wandered into the territory, only to stay for the family and sense of home they have found among Windclan's cats.

SPECIALITY RANKS

Moor Runners

These warriors are trained specifically in open field running and covering large portions of territory in a short period of time. They have been trained to hunt the fast land creatures that roam the moors and are often lanky, tall cats.

Tunnelers

These warriors are trained to learn the large interconnected web of tunnels that exists under the WindClan moor. From a young age, they are trained to work completely in the dark, utilizing their other senses to travel the tunnels to defend the territory and search for prey.

Campminder

Windclan's Campminders hold a very important role in not only camp but day to day life. Campminders are the cats who others often come to for day to day disagreements, and helping with minor troubles such as missing trinkets and the like. Their job encompasses a lot of tasks that otherwise would fall to the wayside of clan life, but are immeasurably important.

Their tasks may include repairing camp paths, minor camp tunnels and sleeping burrow upkeep, checking on elders to be sure they have had prey and water, repairing nests, collecting materials, making sure the prey burrow is clear of pests and rotten prey, or taking guard posts atop Guard rock and other locations—not exclusively, but they are often the first to take the task of guard on a typical day.

When wanderers join the clan they typically fall under the guidance of a Campminder who teaches them about clan culture, the day to day expectations, and the roles that a cat may fill. Apprentices can often be found trailing more outgoing Campminders during lessons on similar topics!

In times of crisis, be it life threatening or imposing political turmoil, Campminders play a vital role here as well. In times of evacuation they are the second to last defense, leaving just before their leader, and ushering the last of the camp away into the tunnels to ensure everyone is safe. During tense negotiations the more well-spoken Campminders may be called upon to mediate a discussion between clanmates; or even other clans to show good faith, given a camp minders vow not to fight for borders, but only on the land they live.

Campminders in Windclan may take apprentices due to a recent change implemented by the council; apprentices may choose to take this role from the start of their apprenticeship or to switch to it if they find a clear distaste for battle.

MONARCH

Monarchs are cats who wish to devote themselves to the raising and care of their clan’s young, whether they have had a litter themselves and are temporarily monarchs or have devoted the rest of their lives to this role. Permamonarchs often take on a familial role for cats who need advice/support in difficult times regardless of their age or rank, though some are known to take a more defensive approach and serve as monarchs well-trained in combat who will defend the kits of the clans no matter the cost.

Apprentices may choose to train as monarchs and devote their lives to caring for and teaching the kits of the clan following a recent change implemented by the council—the same on that allows apprentices to train as campminders.

HOLIDAYS

Wind's Turning

☀️🌷GREENLEAF/

NEWLEAF

On a beautiful day between Newleaf and Early Greenleaf, WindClan comes together to find herbs and flowers all across the moor, decorating both camp and themselves as they compete to see who will win the floral crown, made of the best materials found while searching.

For nearly a half-moon afterward, WindClan's camp is bursting with color — from the pinks and oranges of wildflowers to the stark purples of heather, nary a surface exists without some form of decoration. It is said that any cat who enters during this time leaves smelling of newleaf for sunrises to come. If you happen to have a special someone, well — the best and most beautiful flowers you find often find their way into your courtmate's fur.
